Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York withdrew a scheduled vote for a judicial nominee, Mustafa Kasubhai, to a seat on the Oregon district court bench. Opposition from the minority party in the Senate means that all members of the majority will need to be present for the nominee to be confirmed.
Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia has stated he will not vote for nominees who have not garnered bipartisan support.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said, “Judge Kasubhai’s record and judicial philosophy put him well outside the mainstream.”
